DatacenterDynamicsFocus on Cloud
As marketing reps convince more and more CIO’s that they are going to realize astronomical savings by adopting the various cloud-based delivery models for IT services, the more pressure CIO’s will put on their IT organizations to reinvent the way they do business. The CIO’s will budget for new technologies and will expect to see results in terms of the ROI’s promised by one or another cloud-based system.
That system, of course, will reside in the data center and a lot of that pressure to deliver results will sit on the shoulders of people that run it. Whether most of today’s data centers and their staffs are ready to meet this challenge remains a big question. Adopting a cloud computing strategy is not as simple as replacing IT equipment in the data center.
In our series on cloud computing, we explore the implications cloud computing has for the data center infrastructure – from power and cooling to new governance issues – drawing on real experiences, shared with us by the folks who have done it. |
